I really love Catavino – it’s such an informative and innovative source of information on Spanish & Portuguese wines. The food of the region is key, but it’s just as vital to know about the great wines available too. This is the place to find out!
2002 Bodega dos Victorias Toro Elías Mora Crianza – Spain, Castilla y León, Toro (5/16/2006)
Deep marronish red in color. The nose is blackcherry with funky vanilla-chocolate, and rich dark fruits that seem hidden behind it all. In teh mouth the vanilla and chocolate come forward with a high acidity and thick rich tannins. In the beginning it seems a bit hollow and needs some air to open when black raspberries, and other rich spices come out. Alcohol is a bit high and shows a bit on the finish.
Catavino evolved from the wanderings of an American couple who craved a radical change in perspective. In 2005 they quit their jobs, moved to Spain and dug deep into the local gastronomy. As time passed, they expanded their focus to include Portugal, whereby sharing the heart and soul of Iberian food, wine and culture.
