Part tourist trap, part great deal, Solar do Duque is not only a nice little restaurant we had lunch at last week, but it is also situated right near a bar we just so happened to have a drink at on our very first visit to Portugal four years ago. […]
Delicious and mouthwatering foods from across Iberia covering restaurant reviews, recipes, food and wine pairing, and the history of Spanish and Portuguese gastronomy.
A quick little story before we head off to Portugal. Last night, Gabriella and I harvested our first tomatos from our rooftop garden. Well, in truth “garden” is a bit misleading, because it’s more like rooftop “planter” or rooftop space. After being told that we need to find a new […]
Jack at Fork and Bottle recently offered us a challenge: buy an artisanal or farmtead cheese and investigate food and beverage pairings with that cheese. Fork & Bottle will then take all the cheese and food pairings and create a master reference page with only the good pairing results. Spanish […]
Last year, I was a guide for Butterfield and Robinson taking Americans and Canadians on bicycle trips throughout Catalunya. What just so happened to be my last trip for Butterfield ended in a side contract with a family to help them organize their living arrangements in Spain throughout the summer […]
We’ve lived in Terrassa, Spain for almost year now and on the rare occasion do we actually make the effort to go to Barcelona. It’s not that we don’t have an interest, because who wouldn’t want to experience the magic and mystery of the winding medieval streets and small boutique […]
This past Saturday, in honor of “Open That Bottle Night“, Ryan and I sat down to a candle lit dinner to pair with our special bottles. We feasted on braised short ribs on a bed of polenta covered in a sauce made of a large handful of various dried mushrooms, […]

Now comes the second culinary article in a very short period of time. It seems that after my last post on the dinner I made for Gabriella, my hunger wasn’t satisfied! So I got up early this morning and walked down to our local market. Not the SUPERmarket mind you, […]
People love Spanish food! I hear it all the time from people who either have visited me or want to visit. “I love that Pai-lela! Ohhh give me some Tor-tila!” People love it regardless of whether or not they can pronounce it. I generally do too for that matter. But […]
Restaurante SomoRïostro sits on its own block in the Barceloneta, a Barcelona neighborhood that stretches like a finger between the port and the sea, long inhabited by fishermen and their bars. Named for a colony of Southerners who migrated here in the 1950′s to work in the gas factory, Restaurante SomoRïostro is its own ethnic haven of both international and local flavors and gastronomic heterogeneity expressed through the skilled hands of three young chefs hailing from Finland, Mexico and Barcelona, and accented by the excellent service provided by our Ecuadorian waiter and the manager, Guillermo, who is from Murcia.
