Catavino’s Big News! We’re Headed to America! See you at the WBC!!!

winebloggers-logo_eurosquare-jmvAfter last years 2 successful wine blogger conferences, first in Logrono, Spain and then in Sonoma California, we are very excited to announce that this year, we’ll be at both events. Thanks to the support of our EWBC Sponsor, ViniPortugal, the generic in charge of promoting Portuguese wines, we’ll be swinging by New York and then California to help host Portuguese wine tastings, and spread the word about what we’ve been up to in Europe for the past 4 yrs.  As organizers, and proud parents of the EWBC, we see this as a great chance to summit in America and discuss the issues that affect bloggers around the world.

USA EWBC Kickoff in New York City and California

Our adventure starts on July 22nd, when we’ll be hosting a wine and food blogger’s dinner in New York City featuring a wide range of Portuguese wines! From crisp and refreshing Vinho Verde to dark and powerful Alentejo reds. It’s a chance that we are excited to have to show everyone what it is that we love most about Portuguese wines. If you are a blogger of food or wine and located in the NY area, please send us a note and we’ll get your name on the list. Space is limited, but we’ll do our best to get all of you there!

Next we’ll be headed off to the 3 day American Wine Bloggers Conference, where we’ll not only meet some longtime virtual friends, but also host the EWBC Kickoff Party at the American Wine Blogger’s Conference on Saturday, July 25th at 8pm. As you can imagine, we’ll be pouring even more Portuguese wines, giving you a sneak peak into what we’ll be experiencing at EWBC come October! Plus we’ll be participating in the WBC, and hopefully building bridges between European and American wine bloggers.

Without a doubt, we’re incredibly excited to head back to the USA for many reasons. But the most important of all is to finally solidify the virtual relationships we’ve created over the years. Blogging only means so much if you can’t reaffirm your relationship over a glass of wine and a conversation.

Stay tuned for more details in the coming months!

liwfLondon International Wine Fair

As many of you know, we’re heading to the London International Wine Fair! Viniportugal, again, will be hosting  us again with our own EWBC booth (B20), where we’ll be promoting the European Wine Blogger’s Conference, in addition to giving some talks about Social Media, Twitter, Blogging and other 2.0 ideas! Stop by or send us a tweet to find out more! @catavino

We also have been asked by the London importer, Bibenndum to give a talk on “Wine and the Web: the Business of Getting Social”. Ryan, along with Robert McIntosh, a co-organizer of the EWBC, will be speaking with Dan Coward from Bibendum on how wine business merges with social media. It all happens on Wednesday May 13th at 13:00 and you can find out more details at this link. Space is limited, so if you want to come, make sure to send an email to: Dan Coward, email: dcoward@bibendum-wine.co.uk phone: 020 7449 1701 or Kate Mackay, email: kmackay@bibendum-wine.co.uk phone: 020 7449 4024.

Clearly, we’re elated to have ViniPortugal sponsoring the EWBC, showing the world that generics can embrace social media! We only hope that this becomes a model to others.

Cheers,

Gabriella and Ryan Opaz

  • Yeah! Gabriella, it will be great to see you again and also to finally meet Ryan!

  • Andrea says:

I'm extremely jealous but still incredibly happy for you guys, congratulations!!! I know you'll have an awesome time and do a great job representing Iberia!

  • Bill says:

Congratulations and well done!!! American Ambassadors of Portuguese Wine living in Catalonia coming back to America. Quite a journey. Are you flying over Minnesota or making a pit stop? If the latter, I'll warm up the cellar (figuratively speaking) for your arrival!

  • Wink Lorch says:

Excellent news – congratulations on negotiating what looks like a very successful partnership with Viniportugal. It's really great to see Wines of Portugal perhaps taking a lead amongst generic wine bodies in supporting wine Social Media initiatives. They've always been very supportive to wine educators too, so I'm really happy to see them do this. Wishing you a successful trip to London – see you there!

  • Justin Roberts says:

Smart move ViniPortugal! Wake up Spain!

  • Woohoo! Can't wait to meet you both face-to-face at WBC in Sonoma. It's going to be a blast!

  • IrisLisson says:

Well between all these exciting conferences – perhaps, if you have some spare time in June, you would like to join us at the our VINEXPO OFF event at Bordeaux on the 22th of June:

“Les Vignerons Blogueurs. – the bloging winemakers”

It's an opportunity to meet 19 winery-bloggers from France, Portugal and Italy and taste their wines.

You find information about the event and the participants on our common blog at:

    http://blogsetvignerons.over-blog.com/

or on facebook under events: Vignerons-bloggeurs VINEXPO OFF

    http://www.facebook.com/events.php?ref=sb#/even...

Oscar Quevedo and Gianpaolo Paglia from Italy will join us – and even in our “French majority” group, there are some foreign accents (Amy, Emmanuelle and me).

    See you at Bordeaux?

    salutations vignronnes et blogueuses

  • Ryan Opaz says:

Iris, I would love to come, though will be unable to attend this year. Too much on our plates as of now! :( I hope though that you may be able to join us in Lisbon later this year. Cheers,

    • Iris says:

I didn’t see your answer, so I sent a “double” of my commentary by your contact sheet a moment ago, sorry:-).

And sorry, that you won’t be at Bordeaux – for me, it will probably not be possible to come to Lisbon – to much work in the cellar at that period of the year, but I know that Thomas Lippert will be there, so I will follow his “news” eagerly in German:-).
