There are a lot of wine websites on the interwebs. There is no better regional wine website when it comes to depth and breadth of content and expertise.

Happy Holidays to all

Can you believe that we’ve lived in Spain for 3 years! 3 years!!!! That, my friend, is incredible. How quickly time flies when you’re having fun. It’s also been two and half years since our creation of Catavino! Granted, the first year of its debut was more of personal journal than a comprehensive Iberian wine site, but the passion has carried through from day one.

A second aspect that has continually woven itself through the creation of our site, and our aspirations and dreams of living in Spain, is that everything changes. Change is one of the few guarantees we have in life. What we first envisioned as our end goal when we moved here has morphed and altered, appearing as a completely different creature from when we first started. Catavino Marketing wasn’t even a blimp on our radar many moons ago, but now, we’ve shifted our focus after receiving very positive feedback over the past two years. Additionally true is having Gabriella come on board full time, giving Catavino a much needed balance in information as well as providing consistency. Come to think of it, we’ve been averaging 5 posts a week since her arrival, a task we’re very proud of as it has hopefully provided you an ample amount of new information on Iberian wine to ponder and act upon. Now just wait until you see what we’ve got in store for 2008!

Newsletters!! Although our first newsletter on Port wine proved to be a rather impressive hurdle to jump without having prior experience either creating or formating it, we’re strangely pleased with the end result. Sure, we made some fatal errors along the way, but like anything in life, we learned; gaining yet another badge of humility. Containing exclusive interviews, featured wine profiles, 40+ tasting notes and additional winery tidbits, the Port newsletter was enthusiastically and warmly received; and you can rest assured that we intend on retaining the same quality and consistency in our December newsletter dedicated to Cava wine to be released in early January. We’ll then be switching to a bi-monthly newsletter, featuring Rioja throughout February and March! Rioja?! Yeah, yeah, we know that we’ve been pushing this region off for quite some time, but with the Alimentaria wine fair in March and our tour of the Rioja region in February, we thought it was high time to provide you an extensive and comprehensive newsletter on the most respected and renowned wine region in Spain.

Also, don’t forget our 2008 Catavino Calendar! Available for purchase from our site, the Catavino Calendar is loaded with gorgeous pictures taken throughout the Iberian Peninsula and labeled with every Portuguese, Spanish, American and Canadian holiday you can think of.

Finally, we’d like to say thank you to all the Wine Bloggers who have joined us in providing wine information in new and exciting ways. We predict that 2008 will be the year of the wine blogger! What that means, we’re not sure, but if there’s any similarity to The Year of the Rat in Chinese astrology, we’re all sittin’ pretty as it predicts the very best qualities of mankind will be accentuated in the coming year.

Thanks also to both our families and friends for hanging by us, helping to support our dreams through these uncharted waters. We realize that we’ve relied quite heavily upon your trust, faith and belief in us to make this dream practical and profitable (oooh, did we mix blogging and profit?! Blasphemy!) and slowly we’re getting there. Without you, this wouldn’t be possible!

This is also the first year that we will be spending Christmas Day alone, joining our family the following day in Norway!! Therefore, you can expect that we will be enjoying a large Western style breakfast accompanied by a Cava mimosa or three, while packing for our trip up north. Upon our arrival to the frigid, aquavit drinking and cured lamb eating nation, we’ve been given strict orders to keep the computer far from the reach of our nimble fingers. Don’t fret, as we’ve planned ahead to provide you with cultural, education, historical and just plan silly, articles. Come the 7th of January, we’ll be back in full swing to give you another great year of Iberian wine facts.

We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday, full of family, food and Iberian wines! ;)

Cheers,

Ryan and Gabriella Opaz

Stay away from the lutefisk! The Scandinavians specialize in man's inhumanity to fish. Have fun, though, and feliz navidad (god jul in norwegian).
