Tall, casual and friendly, owner Jose Maria Vendrell Rived is a site to behold among his 12 hectar estate, Finca L’Alleu. Having previously worked at Álvaro Palacios, Celler Coop. and Capçanes, he took over his grandfather’s estate and is now producing 15-20,000 bottles a year of which half is exported to the USA. And although his oldest vines reach well over 80 years old, Jose Maria’s philosophy is to continually seek out a new and undiscovered  expression in his wines using native varieties such as Garnatxa Negre and Samso, “I want to retain my heritage but craft something completely different”.

Aging  takes place in French oak barrels, kept for up to 4-5 years.
