Viña Tondonia Reserva Blanco - Lopez de Heredia
Gabriella
Viura (90%), Malvasía (10%). Aged in barrels for 6 years, being racked twice per year and fined with fresh egg whites. A consistent brilliant dark honey in color with a unctuous honey, ripe pear and butterscotch nose. The aroma reminds me of a Portuguese desert right when it comes out of the oven, gooey and filled with creamy egg custard with a honey glaze. In the mouth, the wine is bone dry with good acidity and a lush round mouthfeel. On the palate, this wine reminds me of mead, with rich honey and buttercup flavors ending in a long elegant citrus and honey finish. 4.0

Rich golden color, though lighter than I expected an ‘89 to be at this point. Nose on this is peachy with a caramel streak down the middle. Still somewhat fresh for something showing so much oxidization. Bright acidity and great body for a wine of it’s age. Really alive and vibrant. Flavors show lemon marmalede, light toast notes, butterscotch, and some pit fruits. 3.5/5
