Experience – Sometimes you can use others

“Experience is something you don’t get until just after you need it. -Steven Wright”

Never a truer statement spoken. Winemakers live by this motto, as they craft their blends, each year learning from the previous year’s mistakes. Sadly, however, the lack of experience often stops people from trying new things, afraid that the experience they need won’t come until well after the fact.

The irony is that we cannot live without the experiences of others. Through their experiences, we have a resource to dip into when it’s our turn to act.

Today lot’s of wineries are waiting to see if social media works. The wait is over. Social media does work. End of story.

Go out and look at the experience of others, and then join the conversation with the rest of us, using our experience as you see fit.

This isn't just about selling, it's 21st century Public Relations.

A winery might wait and wait before issuing a Press Release, and then when it does, be disappointed because there isn't a deluge of calls from the press. It is said that you need at least 7 press releases before anyone notices you. And then after a year, wineries often ask PR companies why they haven't had any reactions and sales. Much, much too soon.

Social media can work much faster and much more cheaply than a traditional public relations campaign. It's also much easier to monitor and/or measure the reactions. And, finally it can go direct to consumers, be noticed by the media, and work as a business sales tool (e.g. reach potential importers).
