Spanish Wine, Portuguese Wine – Attention RSS Subscribers to Catavino

Comments

Ok, so I admit it, Catavino is not the most visited wine website out there. No, it’s true. While we do have a nice small number of visits, we are no Vinography! That said, lately I’ve noticed our RSS feed subscribers are through the roof, well not through the roof as in thousand dollar Google ad revenues, but considering that for much of our existence, we’ve only had about 5-10 subscribers, we are now over 70+. I think that qualifies as a roof-busting. Plus, I am confident that I don’t have 70+ relatives or close friends who read about wine, meaning that some of you are non-family!

Anyways, why should you care? Why am I mentioning this? I thought it would be fun to do a little experiment. I want to see how many comments I can get on this thread. Just to see if any of you are listening, and to see what wines your drinking. All I need/want is for you to surf over to www.catavino.net, check out this post that you may be reading in your favorite RSS reader, and then leave a comment. For the comment, I want to know the last Iberian wine you drank. Can’t remember it? Then tell us when you drank it? Haven’t had one yet? Then tell us what you would like to drink? Not a wine drinker and just subscribe to us so that you can see what wine drinkers talk about, well in that case, just leave us a ;) smiley face! The whole process should take you a minute or less, though I would love to hear where the wine came from and what it cost. I think some of the other commenters might like to hear this too. Feel free to say what you want. Oh and el Jefe, if your listening, please feel free to talk about your own wine since it does hail, in a way, from Iberia!

I know this is form of virtual pan handling, but I really want to see if we can get up to that 70 comment mark. Hell, I subscirbe to my own feed so I’ll have to post a comment too, I guess. I know my parents are out there, no excuses folks, step up and let us know what the family that brought you Opaz is drinking?

Being a realist, I’m willing to bet we could get 30 comments, maybe more. Then again, maybe all the feeds are just scrapers and therefore, nobody’s listening after all.

Here’s a nice format you can cut and past to the comments if you want to make it even easier to post a comment:

Latest Iberian Wine: (insert wine)(price)(purchase location)
Where you read CV’s feed: (bloglines, google, insert others)
Subscribe to our iTunes Podcast feed: (yes/no)

Cheers and thanks for the help!

Ryan Opaz

PS for all of you asking yourself what it is I’m talking about. Please read this. Then if your still confused send me an email and I’ll try to help you out personally!

PSS if you are not a subscriber to our feed, you can still leave a comment. Just let us know how you find our site.

PSSS I hope i”m not embarrassed and left with 5 comments, the rest being bots.

My most recent IberWine was: Papa Luna Calatayud 2004 Unfiltered 14.5%. 65% Old Vine Garnacha, 15% Shiraz, 15% Tempranillo, 5% Manzuelo & Monastrell. A powerful bomb of a wine. Dare I say in the "International" style? Only had one, over a week ago, so I can't give more specifics, other than to say I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next tasting. I don't read the feed, I read the blog directly from your website and I don't subscribe to the iTunes podcasts.

Hi Ryan- I enjoy your blog and have learned a lot about Iberian wines from you. Thanks. Last Iberian Wine (2 weeks ago): 2004 Altos de Luzon Jumilla ($12) – purchased at Costco. Where I read CV's feed: A bit of a shameless plug here but I use Scrugy's aggregated feed of all wine related blogs to keep up on CV and the entire wine blogosphere (<a href="http://scrugy.com/rss“><a href=”<a href="http://scrugy.com/rss). ” target=”_blank”>http://scrugy.com/rss). “><a href="http://scrugy.com/rss). ” target=”_blank”>http://scrugy.com/rss). I then use this feed on my Google homepage. This brings up an interesting point, though. When you consider feed aggregators like Scrugy, your 70 is low since it doesn't take into account the number of subscribers of the aggregated feed. Subscribe to your iTunes Podcast feed: No, but I will add it. I don't get much iPod time so I usually listen to podcasts from the Scrugy wine podcast player. I do <a href="eat ” target=”_blank”>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eat_your_own_dog_food“>eat my own dog food. :-) Good luck with the comment drive! -James

About two weeks ago, I finally took a few minutes to play with my personalized Google home page and added catavino.net. I have some of your early podcasts in my iTunes podcast library, but I'm not subscribed to catavino. I should fix that, but I'm much less likely to listen to podcasts than read a post. (Personal preference, since I tend to do all my web surfing at work.) THe birthday vidcast was awesome, however. Most recent Iberian wine I drank about three weeks ago with my friend Lindsay. I'll have to look up the actual name, etc., but I bought it in Alicante where I was there last year. I almost never decant my wines (I mostly stock up on table wines and never think its worth the effort), but I did decant this one. Both of us thought it was fantastic and opened up beautifully. I'll post again when I'm home and have the bottle in front of me.

Latest Iberian Wine: Segura Viudas Aria Cava, about $9, followed by Mano y Mano (100% Tempranillo) also about $9, purchased from the Wine Discount Center in Chicago. We drink Iberian wines pretty often. Where you read CV’s feed: Google RSS Subscribe to our iTunes Podcast feed: Yes—since last summer when we were planning our October trip to Spain. We had a great trip, including dinner at Memento in Madrid, which we found on your site.

Congratulations on the subscriptions! My last Iberian wine: 2005 Nora Albarino, purchased at Colorado Wine Company in beautiful downtown Eagle Rock outside of LA for $13.99. I'm 5 months into learning more about Spanish wines, and Catavino is a must-stop for me. I read Catavino in my Google Reader. I also subscribe to the Podcast through iTunes.

Hey you two! Love the blog, I subscribe because it's relevant to my buying choices (I live in Gracia), although I normally turn my nose up at rose and it takes a bit of effort, given my inexperience with this sort of thing, to find the wine that you're talking about. Anyway, the last Iberian wine I drank was the Torres Coronas. Was the vintage 2005? Don't really remember. I was in the store, and although Sangre de Toro is a bit heavy for me, I still see Torres as a reliable name, and the Coronas was quite pleasant. I've been meaning to join the forum and community, but my internet time is few and far between these days. I'll talk to you there soon though!

I'm a newby here. Love the blog. Just found it while looking for some info for my wine club group, which will meet in my office in a few minutes. Out theme tonight includes Spanish and Portugese wines. The last Spanish wine I had was a Montecillo Rioja Reserva, and the last Portugese a Dom Martinho, both last night. Tonight it will be Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha, and Castano Hecula Monastrell.

Hi Ryan: Cristalino Rose Brut $5.99 at Safeway I have been accessing your blog the old fashioned way – a bookmark on my browser. I just signed up via my yahoo page so I guess I am #71. Have not yet used the podcast feature.

Great idea, Ryan! OK, so I subscribe to the blog in Google Reader and the podcast on iTunes. The last Iberian wine tasted is still open but it is not a good one, I'm afraid… I found it at a store that is usually reliable on somewhat of a close out for $9. It's from Juilia Roch e Hijos, "Casa Castillo", Monastrell, Jumilla 1999. It looks fine in the color department but has the dirtiest barnyard nose I've ever encountered. The black cherry and spice flavors are not too bad and there is still some life ahead for this wine but something really went wrong here. I scored it a 74 and will write more about this wine on my blog soon. Cheers!

Hi there Ryan! I've noticed my RSS subscriptions are through the roof lately too. Because I get so few comments, I also worry about scrapers. I read your blog through Google Reader. I don't subscribe to the podcast, but I ought to mention it to Kevin. He loves podcasts, but they're not my learning style. We took a Spanish wine seminar from Doug Frost last November and have been hooked ever since. I don't know for sure what the last one we drank was – but we recently bought a case of Borsao Tres Picos and a case of Red Guitar. For the holidays, we had a case of Vina Borgia that we gave away to everyone. There's always Spanish wine available in our house. Cheers!

Hi – This is the dad. Last that I remember was a wine from Abadia Retuerta which of course I can't remember the specific wine but it was very good. Had it a the restaurant Cue in the new Gutherie Theatre in Minneapolis and the cost was about $34 if I remember correctly. What do we drink – whatever Ryan tells us to drink of course. I tend to primarily go to Catavino to check what is happening and keep up with the latest. Of course I probably have a somewhat greater interest in how things are going than the average bear since we have seen the site grow from an idea into what it is today. Keep up the good work and good luck with your other new ideas and…..what wine should we have with dinner tonight??

Lemme see, the last Iberian wine I drank was a 2001 Cosme Palacio y Hermanos Rioja. I purchased it for about $11 from some corner store wine shop while visiting a friend in DC. THat was some tasty stuff! I first heard about Catavino because of your upcoming / ongoing Virtual Rose Tasting – I happen to have a Spanish rose and plant to participate! I read blogs mostly in Google Reader, with the occasional visit to the site themselves. I'm more of a print kinda guy, so not as much into the podcasts (although I did enjoy your "happy BBQ dance vidcast" :-)
