Tinta Cão

Literally “the red dog” this port wine variety is a thick skinned grape with small clusters of medium sized berries. Tend to produce lower alcohol wines that when blend lend floral characteristics to Port wines. Till recently it has been the least planted Port wine variety, and now is enjoying a small revival in new plantings. Most likely you will never taste this variety as a mono-varietal wine, but rather blended with Duoro reds and Port wines.
