Catavino welcomes you to join us on a luxury six-day wine tour that we created to allow you to discover the exciting wines, foods and landscapes of Northern Portugal from the comfort of the best hotels. We will make sure your time in Portugal is filled with wines that will amaze you and experiences you will never forget! DAY 1 – Sunday – July 3rd, 2016

Arrive Porto, Portugal, Welcome See the colorful tiles aligning the city streets, intricately laid cobblestone and majestic monuments. Meander down narrow alleys filled with mouthwatering aromas of grilled fish, wooden port casks and roasted chestnuts. In the afternoon, you’ll enjoy your first wine experience in at a private home filled with antiques and relics dating back hundreds of years. The home was first built in the 17th century and is surrounded by romantic gardens. We will be hosted by the owners who will regale us with stories of old Porto as we taste their own wine. If you were looking for a jaw dropping experience to kick off your tour, this is it! Our hosts, Gabriella and Ryan Opaz, will welcome you with an extraordinary dinner at an invitation-only space inspired by the en vogue concept of secret supper clubs. Here, every gastronomic moment is exclusively designed for you!

DAY 2 – Monday – July 4th, 2016

Vinho Verde wine region Today we depart Porto and head north to Vinho Verde, the famed white wine capital of Portugal. It’s the largest and most fertile Portuguese wine region, where granite soils and flowing rivers cascade into the crashing waves of the Atlantic. Here, you’ll visit two exceptional wineries renown for their high quality white wines that far surpass the ubiquitous fizzy Vinho Verde wines you’ve traditionally found back home. The first producer boasts of a 16th century estate, where King John IV was crowned king of Portugal. After a premium tasting, vineyard walk and lunch, you’ll head to the second producer – considerably smaller – but equally amazing! With one of the owners, you’ll dive into your second in-depth tasting followed by yet another jaw dropping experience exploring their manicured, and very green, estate. Don’t be surprised if you feel transported to a Shire filled with Hobbits. It’s that lush! But all good things must come to an end, and by dusk, you’ll embark on a journey to the internationally acclaimed Douro Valley, where your 5 star hotel awaits. The Vintage House is a renovated 18th century estate, offering majestic views of both the river and the undulating contours of the vineyards.

DAY 3 – Tuesday – July 5th, 2016

Douro Valley This morning, your senses will be vibrantly awakened by the verdant Douro Valley as you tour the  vineyards of a renowned Port wine estate led by the producer himself. Get your hands dirty in the vineyards as we walk through the vines that produce the wines that make the Douro special. After lunch and a premium barrel tasting at the winery, you’ll have the option of either visit one of the most emblematic train stations in Portugal, which boasts a collection of azulejos (tiles) from 1937, followed by High Tea along the River Douro. As the sun casts long shadows across the vine covered terraces, you’ll be sipping Port in one of the most romantic wineries in the region. A “tapas style” dinner (called petiscos) will be hosted in a restaurant famed for its passion for Portuguese wine.

DAY 4 – Wednesday – July 6th, 2016

Douro Valley It would be a shame to stay in a luxurious hotel and not relish in its amenities! On this morning, it’s all about you! Take time to replenish your batteries and relax at the pool. Come midday, we’ll extend that awe inspiring experience with a light lunch at one of the most prestigious and stunning wineries in the Douro. Here you will done on regional cuisine in the manor house while tasting award winning wines of the Taylor’s group. If you’re looking for photo opps, this is the place! Before sunset, hop aboard a private boat for a relaxing cruise and leisurely swim. A divine dinner, with an even more impressive view, awaits at one of the Douro’s top restaurants.

DAY 5 – Thursday – July 7th, 2016


After four days of pure, unadulterated gluttony, it’s time to don those hiking shoes and savor one of Portugal’s greatest natural treasures: Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês. This 703-sq-km park encompasses boulder-strewn peaks, precipitous valleys and lush forests of oak and pine. Here, you’ll not only swim in crystal, clear waterfalls and hidden pools, but you’ll learn how to bake bread alongside the grandmothers of the village in a traditional stone house. Traditional petiscos will be savored with a breathtaking view of the mountains, where we’ve arranged a tasting of unusual Vinho Verde’s straight from our private cellar. After your afternoon hike and panoramic viewpoint of the valley, we’ll return to Porto to the InterContinental Hotel. Among a myriad of suggestions, you’ll have the opportunity to dine on your own at a leisurely pace, back in Porto.

DAY 6 – Friday – July 8th, 2016

Porto On your final day, you’ll enjoy a fantastic food tour along Porto’s winding streets. You’ll be taken to different tasting locations to enjoy traditional and iconic Portuguese foods and beverages. You’ll then wander over to the iconic Port lodges nestled on the opposite side of the river Douro facing Porto. Tightly interwoven among the steep embankments of Vila Nova de Gaia, these ancient cellars – some as old as 300 years – are home to thousands of barrels brimming with history. Among breathtaking views, you’ll not only visit two of these lodges, but taste a special assortment of old Tawnies and Colheitas. And finally, your farewell dinner, featuring heaps of fresh seafood taken directly from the Atlantic! Save room, because fish will never taste so good!

DAY 7 – Saturday – July 9th, 2016

Depart Porto A bus transfer to the airport will be provided for you if you’re not planning to extend your trip. If the latter is the case, and you’d like to explore more of the Iberian peninsula, we’ll help customize the remainder of your trip exactly to your liking. Contact us!

Optional Supplement (1 day prior to the tour) – Saturday – July 2nd, 2016

Day trip to Coimbra (additional fee) Departing from Porto we head to Coimbra, which is not only the nation’s former capital, but also the  principal city of Portugal’s heartland region. In the morning, you’ll visit one of the region’s most iconic winery, best known for taking what was once a rustic, difficult grape and turning it into a local and recently global phenomenon. Today, it produces elegant whites, reds, rosés and some of Portugal’s best known sparkling wines. Come lunchtime, you’ll be introduced to the region’s prized cuisine, “Leitão da Bairrada”, with its crackling skin and tenderized meat seasoned with a spicy smear of garlic and black pepper paste.
