The Lisbon Culinary experience is a private guided walking tour in Lisbon, where you will learn to eat and drink like a local Lisboner. Enjoy a half-day tour meandering through small neighborhood streets of Portugal’s charismatic capital, exploring the hidden pastry shops, markets and restaurants that few tourists ever have the possibility of visiting…
Catavino recommends this tour for food and drink-loving couples and small groups, who want a personable and private experience, with an English-speaking guide and resident local, at an affordable price.
Experience real, traditional Portuguese cuisine from a native perspective. The tour starts with a Portuguese style pequeno almoço of coffee and pastries at a local pasteleria (café/pastry shop) where you’ll learn about the history of Portuguese coffee and how the natives like to drink it, as well as the origin of Portuguese pastry making. After breakfast, you’ll visit a great local bakery to talk about the different types of Portuguese pão (bread) and perhaps, pick up some to take on your journey. Next, you’ll take a short walk to one of the best open mercados in Lisbon! As you tour the market, you’ll learn about the fundamental ingredients of Portuguese cuisine and some of the popular traditional dishes in which they’re used. Then you’ll hop back on the local bus and head down to the neighborhood of Campo de Ourique (voted “Best Lisbon Neighborhood 2012″ by Time Out Magazine) to end with a hearty lunch at a favorite local tasca.
