Tour Description
The Rioja Wine Tour is a private three-day wine immersion in La Rioja, Spain’s premier wine- producing region, visiting vineyards, tasting the classic wines of the region, and discovering traditional Riojan cuisine, a hearty accompaniment to the wines. Spend your nights in a stunningly modern hotel in a winemaking village.
Tour Schedule
Day 1: Travel to La Rioja from Bilbao or San Sebastián, stopping to visit an Idiazabal cheese maker en route. Tour one of the Rioja’s most prestigious and beloved wineries. Lunch at the restaurant of a young chef who presents traditional ingredients with modern style. After lunch visit a winery making some of Spain’s most highly regarded wines. Taste their wines and the olive oils they produce. Pintxos tour in the evening along Calle Laurel in Logroño, arguably one of the best places for pintxos in all of Spain.
Day 2: Visit a single estate vineyard and winery. After tasting the wines accompanied by some mid-morning tapas in the vineyards, you will go to a family-owned winery and have a traditional Riojan lunch, paired with the bodega ́s wines, with the young winemakers. After lunch, visit one of the Rioja’s ultra- contemporary design wineries and taste their modern wines. Return to your hotel for a quiet dinner.
Day 3: Today will be unforgettable. Spend the morning horseback riding among the vines. (Option of bike-riding along quiet country roads if you prefer.) After riding, visit a boutique winery for a tasting of their acclaimed Tempranillo wines. Lunch of traditional Riojan cuisine in a nearby village. Next, go on to the medieval walled town of Laguardia for a guided walking tour that will include a viewing of the polychrome Portico of Santa Maria and a visit to El Fabulista subterranean winery. For dinner, choose a tapas dinner in Laguardia or perhaps reservations at one of the region’s Michelin-starred restaurants.
Day 4: Transfer to San Sebastián or Bilbao.
