Catavino Tasting Portuguese Wines in Oporto at Essencia do Vinho

Submitted by Gabriella on Thursday, 5 March 2009No Comment |

essencia do vinhoIf you’ve been following us on Twitter (Catavino), you’re most likely savvy to the fact that we’re enjoying ourselves in the historic Palacio da Bolsa, while judging wines from across Portugal. This morning, with approximately 20 other judges, we tasted 10 whites from the 2007 vintage, 27 reds and 5 ports from the 2006 vintage. All the wines were previously rated 17 (whites) or 17.5 (reds) points or higher from an independent panel assembled by Blue Wine Magazine and then presented to us for the final tasting.

What was the overall take on the tasting? Well…we’ll have to leave you in suspense for a future post, but needless to say, we think you’ll be very interested in the results.

More importantly, tomorrow at 6pm Greenwich mean time, we’ll conduct our very first workshop with Portuguese wineries on the power of blogging and social media LIVE! Meaning, that we’ll not only have LIVE BLOG set up at www.catavino.net/viniportugal, but we’ll also do our best to have a LIVE video streaming at the same time. Meaning, if you want to participate in the workshop, sharing your questions and comments, we invite you to do so. While Ryan is bantering away on stage, I’ll be holding down the fort, warmly welcoming you to join the conversation.

Additionally, while we’re moving around the wine fair, having dinner with the Douro Boys and tasting wines from the north and south of Portugal, we invite you to share your questions with us. Do you have a question about the 2006 vintage? Curious about the contribution of the Baga grape to Portuguese blends? Perplexed as to how the crisis is effecting iconic Portuguese wines? Whatever your question, send it our direction, and we’ll do our best to get it answered. Best way to send the questions is via Twitter: @catavino.net

Cheers,

Gabriella and Ryan Opaz
