Northern Portugal: A Green Oasis for Nature Lovers
written by Gabriella Opaz | 14th March 2016
On this full-day tour, you’ll not only explore the waterfalls, cliffs and rivers that make Gerês Natural Park exceptional, but you’ll do so with local, and very passionate, English speaking guides. Gerês is a stunning labyrinth of regenerating oak forests, undulating green valleys, peat bogs, 300 million year old granite mountains and tranquil waters of the Homem River. It also happens to be the only National Park in Portugal and touches one of our favorite wine regions, Vinho Verde.
Vinho Verde is the northern most wine region in Portugal, famous for its crisp and refreshing whites that pair beautifully with local specialties such as presunto (cured ham), chourico (paprika seasoned pork sausage), queijo (cheese) and caldo verde (kale soup) – all of which you’ll try!
If you’re a nature lover who adores jaw-dropping scenery, dips in crystal blue waters and cozying up to the locals while cooking up traditional cuisine, then you’ll love this Tour! Mind you, this is just the start! If you’re needing a nature tour anywhere in Portugal, let us know! We’re happy to oblige!
We were part of the 2016 Harvest Tour and had the experience of a lifetime! The Douro Valley is breathtakingly beautiful and our guides were wonderful. Ryan and Gabriella must have called in all of their personal favors because we met and drank wine with many winemakers, a wine shop owner and tasted ’72 port which Oscar Quevedo’s grandfather had made. Doesn’t get any more special than that!
You’ll have the opportunity to lunch among the locals, speak with farmers and shepherds, and break bread with traditional bakers. You’ll have access to natural, unspoiled treasures, dive into pristine waters, hike beautiful mountains and revel in the only National Park in Portugal. Join us on a 4×4 tour in the wilderness, and experience things that simple words cannot describe.
