When envisioning your perfect Honeymoon, do you crave medieval mountain adventures or relaxing seaside with the coastal breeze cascading over your legs? As this Honeymoon is all about your idyllic experience in Portugal, we’ve crafted two perfect options to match your vision:
Option 1: Torres Novas
This morning, your private chauffeur will pick you up to take Torres Novas. In route, you’ll visit one of the most iconic Gothic monasteries in Portugal: Monastery of Batalha. The Monastery of the Dominicans of Batalha was built to commemorate the victory of the Portuguese over the Castilians in the battle of Aljubarrota in 1385. For the photographers and historians among you, this is a spectacular visit, not to mention a treasure for writers. Within these walls is a love dramatic love story that we’d be remiss not to highlight. After lunch, visit Óbidos, one of the best preserved medieval towns in Portugal. This evening, you’ll check into your newly remodeled eco-hotel that makes architects go weak at the knees: it’s also relaxed, generous (expect just-baked cake and a nightly bonfire with wine), and as refreshing as its home-made lemongrass tea.
Option 2: The Algarve
This morning, you’ll make your way to the southern tip of Portugal by plane (or train) where you’ll enjoy several days of sea and sun. The Algarve is incredibly rich in culture and diversity, especially if you’re looking for a surfing, trekking or simple food friendly experience. The entire region contains over 100 beaches that are unique and brimming with biodiversity. For the nature lovers, you can choose from over 30 hiking trails including: the Ria Formosa, Monchique mountain, Caldeirão mountains and Sagres cape. After arriving by plane, your driver will bring you to your boutique hotel located in Albufeira. After a relaxing afternoon poolside, we suggest a romantic dinner in their 2 Michelin star restaurant, famous for outstanding seafood and wine.
Option 1: Torres Vedras
Today, is free time on your own, but we might suggest a breathtaking hike in Parque Natural das Serras d’Aire e Candeeiros where the River Almonda flows into the Tagus there’s a wetland area of more than 520 hectares. The allure of this space lies in its birdlife, which changes from season to season and is rich in waders and waterfowl. Come for a walk around mid-July and you’ll be greeted by the inspiring spectacle of thousands of herons! For nature lovers, this is a great option. Another option might be a visit to The Buddha Eden Garden designed by Comendador José Berardo. In 2001, Commander Berardo began the construction of this extensive oriental garden to pay homage to the colossal Buddhas carved in the rock of the Bamyan valley in central Afghanistan and who for centuries have been cultural and spiritual references.
Option 2: The Algarve
Today, head towards the beach for a day of surfing, relaxing and eating. If you’re craving lessons, or a boat tour, this can easily be arranged. Another fabulous option today is to enjoy a day in a thermal bath high in the mountains. This not only provides you a bird’s eye view of the region, but a fabulous excuse to see another side of the Algarve.
Option 1: Torres Vedras
If you’re not enjoying the hotel, reading a delicious book and doing absolutely nothing, you could make a quick trip to the village of Tomar. Former seat of the Order of the Knights Templar, Tomar is a city of great charm for its artistic and cultural wealth, whose greatest expression is in the Convent of Christ, one of the chief works of the Portuguese Renaissance. That said, the beach is a stone’s throw away, so your last day could be that of snorkeling, diving or a simple picnic filled with local flavors. It’s the perfect opportunity to sit back and nibble on local treats taken from the markets or catered by a local chef.
Option 2: The Algarve
If you’re needing a touch more activity to your day, why not choose a sensual food tour! Experience exotic lands while touring sacks of curries from India, piri piri and rich spices from Africa. Savor freshly caught seafood, ripe fruit and locally harvested nuts and olives. If you’d prefer culture, why not visit the town of Silves, where the old Moorish Capital, with its Castle and the XII Century Gothic Cathedral still exist today. Climb the Monchique mountains to Fóia, where you’ll experience the highest point of the Algarve. Or head towards Sagres and Cape Saint Vincent, the extreme southwest point of Europe, also known as the “End of the World.” It’s not only beautiful, but filled with natural wonders.
Today, your driver will pick you up and bring you to your respected airports: Lisbon Airport (option 1) or Faro Airport (option 2).
