Upon arrival the San Sebastian airport, we’ll head straight over the French border to the tiny and quaint little village of Sare, where you’ll stay in a 16th century maison overflowing with interesting objects and keepsakes. Outside, you can wander the four hectares of parkland planted with maples, conifers and camellias, or simply stay indoors to rest, relax and recharge before dinner. Dinner would be on your own in the village or in the hotel, where simple and unpretentious dishes are prepared using ingredients fresh from the vegetable garden.
After breakfast, your private guide will begin your Basque Country experience with a drive to Biarritz. Today a luxury beach resort, Biarritz used to be a small fishing village famous for whale hunting until the mid 19th Century when many of Europe’s high nobility began to flock to this town, craving the wonderful sea side life it offered. In no time Biarritz became Queen of beaches and beach of Kings. Today, it’s a trendy beach resort nicknamed ‘small California’ and one of the most famous spot for surfers worldwide. The seaside boardwalk is reminiscent of the Belle Époque.
For your last day of this extended escape your guide will meet you in the lobby before whisking you off on a morning coastal tour of the Guipuzcoa province. Here you’ll explore tiny fishing villages like Orio, and colorful beach side villages such as Zarautz where people from all around the world spend their summer enjoying the Basque culture, gastronomy and surf in the same town. Lunch will be served along the sea in a family run Michelin star restaurant excelling in all the fundamentals: excellent food beautifully presented, outstanding service and attention to detail, warm welcoming interior spaces in a charming building and overall gorgeous view!
